The Crochet floor lamp, a design masterpiece by Alexei Danilin, has won the Red Dot 2024 award even before its official market release.
“In this project, we sought to intertwine cultural heritage, the pursuit of original form, and practical functionality,” Alexei explained.
“The primary artistic inspiration stems fr om an ancient craft—knitting—one of the earliest forms of decorative art, with roots tracing back to antiquity in the regions of Egypt, Greece, and Rome. The metal framework of the floor lamp emulates the intricate interweaving of knitting needles, while the flexible LED cord evokes the appearance of woolen threads. These elements conjure a sense of domestic warmth and familial leisure, wh ere knitting has long been a cherished tradition.”
